That's an interesting point Jared, who says we are behind in technology? We have so many more opportunities to experiment with technology than other countries. Even if we don't have a computer or laptop at home we can just take a short walk to our nearest library and be provided with an abundance of computers ready for us to use.

You are quite right that the educational technological revolution is sweeping the world. However, the exciting introduction of "smart classes" at Horfesh is far more than an experiment; it is part of an on-going programme, Science Journey, through which World ORT - in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and municipalities - is raising the level of science and technology education in Israel.
One of the victims of the on-going conflict between Israel and her neighbours is the Jewish State's education system. For many years, scarce resources have had to be diverted from various sectors of society to meet vital security needs: education is one of them. The result has been a steady decline in educational standards relative to other developed countries, particularly in "peripheral" communities, those towns that lie away from the Tel Aviv central conurbation.
Horfesh, a Druze town near the Lebanese border, is one of more than 30 campuses in underprivileged peripheral areas that World ORT is supporting through Science Journey with state-of-the-art equipment, teacher training, pedagogical development and material support for particularly needy students.
Israel's greatest resource is her people and there is no better way to unlock the enormous potential of her citizens than education. World ORT's Science Journey programme is, we trust, the key to future achievements by tens of thousands of young people who might not otherwise have had the opportunity to explore and nurture their abilities.

Hi Jared,

Great video. I agree that socio-economic factors can have a huge impact on students' accessibility to technology. I see a huge divide between the different schools I work in Sydney. Some have a full time IT technician with amazing facilities while in others I bring my own data projector and screen and we sit in the school canteen.

But despite this divide, we certainly do need to explore how we can use the technology that is available in schools effectively with our students.
