What does Microsoft have to say?
March 14, 2008 by jaredr
After my previous rant, I thought I would find out what the big chief’s at Microsoft have to say about blogging safely and this is what I found…
According to studies, and published on Microsoft, half of all blogs today are written by teenagers with 2 out of 3 providing age, 3 out of 5 revealing their location and contact information and 1 in 5 revealing their full name.
Interestingly, in most student blogs running with school approval that I have heard of, the school name and sometimes student’s first name is published. This is contrary to Microsoft’s “Basic guidelines for bloggers” which states “Never offer any personal information…school’s name…age….”
Again I raise the idea: is using student blogs too much effort for the teacher to satisfactorily monitor and wholeheartedly protect the student’s safety and privacy?
